Individuals with substance abuse and psychiatric disorders, a dual diagnosis, are a common occurrence. An estimated twenty percent of those with a drug or alcohol addiction also battle a psychiatric illness. Sadly, only eleven percent of the dually diagnosed population receives adequate treatment to address both issues. In an effort to combat this statistic and meet the needs of our clients, our staff psychiatrist Dr. Mark Willner M.D. is a specialist in addiction medicine.

Upon entering any of Recovery First's treatment programs our clients are seen by the psychiatrist for an evaluation. At this time an assessment will be made of any medications our clients are taking and what recommended changes, if any, are appropriate. Regular follow up appointments are conducted to monitor our clients' progress. In addition to being Recovery First's staff psychiatrist, Dr. Mark Willner, M.D., is on staff at several area hospitals and treatment centers. He also operates a private practice in Sunrise, Florida. His expertise comes from education as well as many years of treating addicted clients with co-occuring mental disorders.
